Director, Solutions Architecture

AWS Industry Products (AWS IP) and Outcome Driven Engineering (ODE) are AWS engineering organizations chartered to build industry-specific products by diving deep with industry innovation leaders to solve the hence-unsolved digital solutions that unblock the industry from new digital business models, step changes in efficiency, or otherwise transformative business outcomes. We are builders and innovators applying Amazon innovation mechanisms and AWS digital technologies including machine learning, IoT, and so many more to new industries to build new AWS products that ensure industry customers can achieve and sustain the game changing benefits of digitization at scale. Today, AWS IP consists of industry product teams in Automotive, Manufacturing, Healthcare and Life Science, Supply Chain, Sustainability and Energy, Financial Services, and METS (Media Entertainment Telco and Sports). We are seeking a seasoned executive with deep build experience, senior executive customer engagement, industry know how, and long term business strategy expertise to build and drive our cross industry technology, business development operations, and co-development organizations. Like a group CTO, the role is responsible for a broad range of functions within Industry products, from engineering and development of shared industry services, to developing our industry architects and subject matter experts (SMEs), to leading large pan-Amazon strategic executive relationships and developing multi-year co-development engagements in highly innovative and transformative technology areas. In addition to owning core engineering and architecture teams, this is an external facing role with responsibility for executive leadership in highly strategic, complex, multi-year co-development deals and engagements. The Director is a senior member of the leadership team driving broad industry transformation and game changing business outcomes on AWS. A successful candidate will have lead product/software engineering organizations, built and scaled high performing technical teams, be familiar with business operations best practices, be dedicated to diversity and inclusivity, be versed in Cloud and Edge systems, and have world class business acumen to be stubborn about the long term vision, flexible on the implementation details, and clever in driving short term, incremental results.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

15+ Years of delivering product, architecture, and engineering results
10+ Years of technology leadership, managing and building teams
Strong judgement and business acumen in determining strategic vision and running a complex, multivariate business
Proven track record of senior executive engagement and ability to partner with executive leaders on closing and executing large, highly technical strategic co-development and partnership engagements
Proven ability to distill durable market trends to insightful product vision in highly ambiguous emerging markets
Demonstrated leadership and strong judgement in managing growth and diversity in a fast expanding, cross functional organization
Experience successfully partnering with and communicating effectively to C-suite Executives on long term, highly strategic programs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Deep understanding of the fundamentals of building and deploying Industry Software
Experience with applied IoT, machine learning, and Real Time data management systems
Experience building products with Cloud services, preferably AWS
Pragmatic understanding of machine learning and distributed system optimization
Track record of delivering organization transformation in support of digital technology and business outcomes
Understanding of contract and negotiation basics
Experience building products and GTM in regulated industries
