Job Summary of Local Delivery Specialist:
The key responsibility of this job is to pick up and transport freight to and from Service Centers and customers while supporting the sales efforts. This description is not a complete inventory of duties, qualifications, and responsibilities required of employees.
Responsibilities of Local Delivery Specialist:
• Handle tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples, and straight trucks
• Regularly inspect your equipment before each use to guarantee that it is functioning correctly and poses no danger
• Gain the ability to attach or detach a trailer or converter dolly to or from a tractor and/or trailer through the implementation of hooking and unhooking strategies
• Execute the job of cargo handling with the use of fitting motorized and manual equipment, including pallet jacks, hand trucks and forklifts amongst others
• The successful transportation of goods necessitates the use of proper tools and materials such as pallets, ropes, and straps to secure them from movement inside a trailer
• When required, make strides to recover and restore any impaired cargo
• Authenticate and fulfill the compulsory documentation and accounts
• Protect yourself from exposure: When dealing with hazardous materials, it is vital to safeguard your health and well-being. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with hazardous chemicals
• Ensure that the fees for freight are paid for by delivering the necessary payments as stipulated by company rules and protocols
• Always stay in touch with the dispatch team and follow their directives as required. It is important to inform them about any technical problems or flight delays that may arise
• Engage with customers to understand their needs and preferences for pick-up or delivery, and identify areas where additional services may be beneficial
• Internal customer service refers to the interactions between colleagues or departments within a company. It involves collaborating with colleagues to ensure the provision of products and services to external customers at a high level of quality
• Help customers identify new market opportunities by providing up-to-date information on industry trends and consumer behavior
• Vehicle tires may need to be chained depending on the weather or road conditions
• Operational demand could mean that an employee may have to execute tasks as either a road driver or dock worker
• Make sure to follow all legal requirements and company protocols
• Fulfill any additional assignments as deemed necessary
Qualification of Local Delivery Specialist:
• The job requires individuals to hold a valid CDL Class A license with the proper endorsements for double/triple, hazardous materials and tanks.
• Drivers are now permitted to operate commercial vehicles with automatic transmissions without any restrictions on their CDL.
• Successful completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course or one year of recent experience is a requirement for eligibility
• An MVR in accordance with hiring policies is necessary for consideration
• LCVs, including Triple Trailers, Rocky Mountain Doubles, and Turnpike Doubles are permitted to operate only in specific states, which are AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD and UT.
• In various states, LCV drivers are required to comply with the minimum standards of qualification and certification to operate Long Combination Vehicles
• Mastery of basic arithmetic, both with or without electronic assistance, is a key skill set
• Being able to effectively communicate through writing and speech is essential to succeed in any professional setting. This can include drafting written documents, emails, and reports, as well as speaking with colleagues, supervisors, and business partners
• Able to lift and convey hand-propelled weights of up to 100 pounds on numerous occasions throughout the week.
• Proficiency to sustain sitting position for extended periods, contort, pivot, kneel, and clamber in and out of the truck
• The aptitude to operate autonomously or collaborate with a team is a valuable attribute in any work environment
Work Condition of Local Delivery Specialist:
• Drive throughout shift on all types of roads and in all types of weather Exposure to noise and vibration Exposure to dust and diesel fumes Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations Hours may vary due to operational needThe Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance. An employee will not be allowed to drive a commercial motor vehicle without this endorsement.
